yeast infections?
Q. my doctor told me I have a yeast infection. How do people get yeast infections? Is it cleared up easily?
Asked by my_own_luv - Fri Apr 20 22:11:37 2007 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You have natural yeast and bacteria in the vaginal area. Some times you can irritate that area by useing certain soaps or even wearing certain underwear. A lot of women are very succeptable to yeast infections and its really normal to get at least one. Very common. Men can also pass on yeast infections although they dont have any symptoms because their genitals are not moist like ours.

How can I prevent my yeast infections?
Q. I seem to get a lot of yeast infections and I want to know what I can do to stop this from happening. I always follow the basic rules to avoiding yeast infections such as wearing cotton panties, etc. I am on the birth control pill, which I know can cause yeast infections sometimes, but other than that I'm happy with the pill and I want to remain on it. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

A. You probably already know, but in treating the yeast infections, has your partner been treated too? He can re-introduce the infection over and over, and often he'll have no symptoms.

what do recurring yeast infections have to do with diabetes ?
Q. ok so in the past 3 months ive had 2 yeast infections and I've gone to the doctor for both. my doctor asked if diabetes ran in my family an I told her that both my grandfathers have it. my doctor said that if I keep getting these infections she's going to have to test me for diabetes. I'm kinda confused because I don't see the conection.

A. Basically, yeast, which is a fungus, grows in warm, moist areas making the vagina a jackpot location for an infection. Yeast feeds off sugar so if you add high blood glucose levels, the infection will grow like wildfire. Actually, the yeast infections were what prompted me to start looking after my diabetes. I was one of those people who thought "I don't feel bad so why worry about it till I do". After living for months with almost constant yeast infections due to high blood sugar, I couldn't take it anymore. I was buying OTC treatments nearly every week and even went to the doctor for Diflucan. They would subside for a few days then it would start all over again. I am currently on insulin to control my sugar and the infection has gone… [cont.]

What are the causes of chronic/ recurring vaginal yeast infections?
Q. I've had chronic/ recurring yeast infections for months. The doctor keeps giving me treatments but they usually go away for a few days and then come back. I've heard that you can re-infect yourself. What are some factors that can cause you to re-infect yourself? What are some other causes? I am aware of wearing cotton underwear, keeping clean/dry, not using scented soap, tampons, etc. to prevent them. Are there any other ways to prevent them?

A. Age? Sexually active? What medications have you tried? A few tricks to avoiding those pesky yeast infections. Avoid douching as it can throw off your natural vaginal ph. When bathing try not to wash the vagina internally as it self cleans. Eat more yogurt as most yogurt contains a active culture. If you are sexually active you must be fully treated before engaging in sexual activity. Your partner can actually have a yeast infection too.He may have contracted the yeast infection from you, if so he will need to be treated by a Doctor too. Failure do get him treated will and can cause you to become reinfected. Has your gynecologist tried prescribing Difulcan? Generally Difulcan works by taking only one pill. Hope this helps.

What is the relation of Antibacterial Soaps to Vaginal Yeast Infections?
Q. I use antibacterial soap when I shower, and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with causing my yeast infections. After searching the web, I'm still unclear if it is a good thing, or bad thing.
Asked by S.L. - Wed Jul 11 06:15:42 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The vaginal area does not need a strong antibacterial soap, try something milder like pure olive oil soap. antibacterial soaps are too strong for this delicate area, they remove the natural flora of the vagina and make it suseptible to germs. also, wear cotton or silk panties as they are natural fibers and allow the area to breathe, or no panties at all if you can get away with it. Do you have a sexual partner? If he's unfaithful he can carry a yeast infection from another woman to you...

How to prevent yeast infections while on your period?
Q. I mean I know how to prevent yeast infections but just not when your on your period just recently cured one and I'm doing anything I can for it not to come back. I'm on my period now and it says to let the vagina breathe but how can I do that If I have to wear a pad 247 for about a week?
Asked by Rachel H - Tue Dec 18 23:56:07 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When our period comes, it will clean our system so the yeast infection should clear itself out. The thing that I do to prevent yeast infection from coming at all, is to take either 1 glass of cranberry juice or 1/4 cup of cranberries (not sure though if this is the recommended dosage, I just take whatever suits me) every alternate day; plus drinks lotsa water daily.

Is there a connection between females practicing athletics in the morning causing yeast infections?
Q. I've heard people say that practicing early in the day would cause girls to get yeast infections. Anyone shed some light and truth?

A. Morning, noon or night women are prone to get a yeast infection any time. Yeast infections come from damp, dark places and our va-jay-jays are just the perfect grounds for them. After you practice make sure you take a shower and get clean and dry. Also trying wearing all cotton undies , this will help to pull moisture away from your body.

Can wearing a pantilier everyday cause yeast infections?
Q. I wear pantiliers everyday to protect me from daily discharge. For about to past year, i have been suffering from recurrent yeast infections! I have tried everything to treat them, but it just continues to come right back! Could it be from wearing the pantiliners constantly?
Asked by Macy S - Sun Apr 5 17:08:16 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, it could be. Pantiliners actually often cause MORE discharge because they irritate the vulva a bit. Plus, they keep the moisture right there, which provides a fertile breeding ground for yeast. Try to not wear pantiliners for awhile and see if that helps.

Why do I get yeast infections so frequently?
Q. I know that yeast infections are normal but I get them once at least every 1 or 2 months. They are mild and they don't create any real problems but they're still annoying. Why do I get them so frequently? Also, I usually just wait until they go away instead of using medicine because the medicine I've used has given me allergic reactions.
Asked by Antithesis - Wed May 27 15:24:21 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You may want to have your doctor test you for diabetes. Diabetic women have frequent yeast infections due to their high blood sugar levels. Yeast thrives on sugar, so the more sugar in your system the more chance of a yeast infection.

A. I totally know how you are feeling! I had them every other week when I was pregnant with my daughter. There is nothing you can do but to take the medications and let them run their course! It will stop after you have your baby. Also, don't know if there is a link here or not, I have 2 boys, one before her and one after her and am pregnant with twin boys now and I have not had one with any of them. I was wondering that since she was a girl, if that had anything to do with it? Just seems kinda weird to me!

Are yeast infections supposed to hurt this much?
Q. I'm itchy and all like normal yeast infections cause, but I'm also in extreme pain "down there". It's swollen and it hurts just to put medicine on it. Is this normal for a yeast infection? This is my first one ever and I really don't know how to go about treating it with OTC meds.

A. You may also have a urinary tract infection, and trust me those are things you want to start treating right away. They can be insanely painful and agonizing to deal with if you let it go untreated. go to the doctor they'll give you a quick urine test and be able to tell you right away if you have a urinary tract infection. if you do, you just get a simple pill that'll clear it all up in less than a week. dont leave it untreated. also until you can get to a doctor try this product called "azo" its a cranberry tablet that will help get rid of the bacteria that causes the UTI. you still need to go to the doctor though right away.

Why do I get Yeast Infections and UTIs so often?
Q. It seems like no matter what precautions I take I get yeast infections or UTIs whenever I sleep with my boyfriend. What can I do to prevent this or help it? BTW. I take baths but no bubbles, I urinate after intercourse, and I clean well. So please some advice.

A. Guys get yeast infection, too. They just don't have the symptoms of it. Therefore, if you get treated, he needs to be treated, too. Otherwise, you'll just be passing it back and forth. For him, anything marketed for "jock itch" (male yeast infection) should work for him. Even athletes foot is a yeast infection. Wal-Mart sells a generic "anti-fungal" cream that works well. Yogurt and acidophilus pills help to prevent yeast infections. UTI's are different. UTI's can be caused by many things, including rough sex. A prescription may be needed if the UTI is bad enough. Cranberry juice is also good for relieving a UTI.

A. Probably more than the average bear, but still in my 24 of diabetes, I've probably had ten and a good amount of those were in the past year, but I have another theory behind that. An uncontrolled diabetic is gonna get them more frequently because that nice sugary environment encourages the yeaster bunny to grow.

Can lubricated condoms cause yeast infections?
Q. I am on the pill, but my boyfriend and I have started using condoms again because we figure it's cleaner and safer that way. I'm wonder though, if lubricated condoms are known to cause yeast infections or be irritating? If so, which type or brand are less likely to do that? I'd really like to do whatever I can to avoid things like yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis.
Asked by dodo - Thu Jun 12 22:00:12 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would actually think that you're LESS likely to get a yeast infection if your BF wears a condom. The ph balance in the vagina needs to stay correct (acidic), and it goes out of whack with a yeast infection. Semen is alkaline, and if you have sex a lot, it can contribute. At least I think so. I'm not a doctor or nurse, and may be remembering this inaccurately, but it isn't life or death, and it would probably be best to talk to your doctor anyway. You probably want to avoid spermicidal lubricant though. With the pill you really don't need it. And regular lubricant is less irritating.

Do you have any tips for preventing yeast infections?
Q. I'm on the pill, so I'm more likely to get yeast infections. My pap smears are always normal and my doctor says everything checks out fine. I already know to avoid wet clothes, avoid pantyhose, wear cotton panties, eat yougart... anything else? Sometimes I can feel a yeast infection starting. Is there anything I can do to stop it? I don't want to go off the pill... I love how it regulates my period and helps my cramps.

A. acidophilus, you can find it in the pharmacy section with the vitamins and natural remedies. It has the same active ingredient as yogurt and it works. Also drink a lot of cranberry juice it is supposed to prevent bladder infections but it also helped me not to get yeast infections. Using these two I haven't had one in 3 years and I used to get at least 5 a year.
