A. 20 mule team borax. In the laudry detergent aisle of the supermarket. If you are trying to kill bugs, mix it w/ powdered sugar to attract them to the borax.

How to turn regular Boric Acid bought from Rite Aid into pesticide?
Q. This morning i bought two bottles of store brand Boric acid powder from Rite Aid because i heard it kills carpet beetles and their larvae. I have found these little annoying things mostly by my windows and doors but occasionally find them around the carpet as well. My cat sits by the windows and doors and i guess carries these things on him and takes them around the house with him. I want to know how to use these bottles of boric acid as a pesticide and also know how to safely use it around my family and pets. Any help is greatly appreciated!

A. I have used Boric Acid in the past using a plastic container that either has small hole on the tip (such as a Ketchup Squeezer that you can get at the dollar store) or an old spice shaker (such as the ones they sell at the store with spices on them) clean and dry really well and fill it with the boric acid an then sprinkle it on the places you need to. It's safe for you and for your pet.

Is boric acid going to be safe to use on my bed?
Q. I have a roach infestation, and every now and then I always see some crawling on my bed. This makes me very paranoid to sleep at night, so I was going to sprinkle a little bit of boric acid on my bed. I've heard boric acid is pretty safe to use. I've heard that it doesn't irritate skin. Is it ok to use on my bed? Will it be ok to sleep on a bed with just a bit of boric acid sprinkled on?

A. I wouldn't sprinkle boric acid on your bed. Boric acid is a poison. You can get rid of cockroaches with Plaster of Paris. First clean your entire house. Also get rid of any clutter. Roaches love to hide in clutter. Then mix Plaster of Paris with powdered sugar and sprinkle this mixture anywhere you've seen roaches. Pour the mixture directly on surfaces. Don't even bother with bowls or plates. This way the roaches can get to the mixture easily, and they'll be more likely to walk through it, too. The roaches end up eating the Plaster of Paris when they eat the powdered sugar. They also get the mixture on their feet and eat it when they clean their feet. Then when they drink water, they die. Allow the mixture to sit out for at… [cont.]

How does boric acid work for getting rid of roaches??
Q. How do I get boric acid??
Asked by Anaiza - Wed Mar 19 12:13:10 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments
A. . Place boric acid around others areas you see them coming from. Roaches clean themselves a lot. By walking in the boric acid, they automatically get some on them. When boric acid is ingested, it interferes with digestion and kills them.

A. You want to put it along base boards and dark areas where roaches tend to crawl or hide. Under the refrigerator is a good place as well as the cabinet under the sink. Just apply it as a powder. You don't need to do anything else. It is perfectly safe for your pets and children.

Can you mix boric acid with water for a spray bottle to kill roaches more effectively??
Q. I want to spray boric acid along the walls by the ceiling and in the heat vents where I see roaches coming in from my dirty neighbors in my apartment. Will it work?
Asked by Anaiza - Wed Jun 18 15:11:58 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It will work if you first heat the water then add some boric acid. My favorite ant killer is making a simple sugar syrup then adding a tablespoon of roache-proof to it. The ants drink-up then disappear a day later; -fore-ever! Do not add the boric acid while the water is steaming-let it cool some first. 1 tblspn of powder to a quart of liquid.

Is using boric acid to keep roaches out of your apartment vegan?
Q. I live in NYC-- Even if you keep a clean house they may come and I do not like them. I have used boric acid for years to keep them away. It's a mild powder that repels them and kills them if they get too much of it in their legs. Is it "not vegan" to do so? What do vegans who live in big cites do? I mean other than just keeping food locked away and sweeping and cleaning.
Asked by that one - Wed Oct 22 15:30:53 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. i suppose it wouldn't technically be vegan, because you are hurting and killing living animals. But what else are you gonna do? I know i would do the same.

Can anyone give me a scientific explanation of the reaction caused when boric acid ester is created?
Q. I'm doing an experiment in which I have to combine boric acid, methanol and concentrated sulfuric acid, then light a match. However, I need to hand in an explanation of why those three ingredients mixed together would produce a green flame. Ive been searching for it but couldn't find any answers on google. The explaination can be as short as one paragraph. Can anyone help me?

A. B(OH)3 is soluble in lower alcohols such as methanol, but nearly insoluble in water. This is because B(OH)3 + H2O <=> B(OH)4- + H+. Methanol attracts some water from moisture, so adding concentrated sulfuric acid shifts the equilibrium to the left. Now lightning the mixture produces a green flame because of the presence of B(OH)3. What you actually do is a mixture, not a esterification.

A. Well, boric acid used intravaginally is generally safe and effictive in doses of 500mg but I think there may be a chance of irritation during a period and they may be less effective as they will leak more quickly with your menstrual blood. I think I would try and see but stop at the first feeling of irritation. Good luck and best wishes :)

A. yeas and no, they will stay out of the BA is put but they won't go away, just go somewhere different. Mixing the BA with the sugar probably won't help since that is what Terro is. You might try Combat baits since it targets ants feeding on proteins. Then again you may consider a pro using Termidor / Phantom which will stop all your ant activity for a good while, maybe even through next summer. Knowing what type of ant you are dealing with would be the first step in getting rid of them.
