Boric acid?
Q. I have heard that boric acid is a good remedy for killing yeast infections for women whose infection did not respond to antibiotics prescribed by doctor. I am not pregnant, so I wouldn't be hurting a baby. I am aware of the dangers, but i have had this for almost a year. Did it work for anyone?
Asked by snicker-nut - Thu Jul 10 16:41:01 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, but it is not straight boric acid. It is a boric acid suppository that the pharmacist compounds, so you have to have a doctor's prescription. If worked very well for me, better than Diflucan ever did. The doctor told me to take one suppository nightly for four days and it was helping me by the second day. And, if you have been having the symptoms for almost a year your could have very low acidophilus levels, which help prevent yeast growth, or if you have had sex, your partner could be transferring it back and forth to you, without even having any symptoms. I suggest you see your physician if you are considering this. Hope this helps!

Will sprinkling boric acid as a powder around the base of my log home as an insecticide safe for my cat?
Q. I recently read where boric acid is a very good natural insecticide. However I am concerned with the toxicidity for my cat. I live in a log home - boric acid is also a flame retardant, and kills all sorts of pests: roaches, termites, rodents, spiders, and ants. Thanks for any information concerning the outdoor use of boric acid and PETS.

A. Boric acid and laundry borax are both good, as you said. They both have low toxicity for children and pets as long as they don't eat a lot of it or breath too much of the dust. I doubt the cats will find it appetizing. I have a friend with cats and dogs and I've used borax inside her home for insect control and the pets didn't get curious about it.

A. You are correct Boric Acid is used to clean eyes. I can not believe how many people freak out over the word Acid but I assure you it is not like battery acid. It is safe for eyes when diluted with water. It even reads eye wash right on the bottle. I have used it in the past and I just used a small teaspoon in a bowl of warm water, I really didn't use any really science. Then I just soaked a wash cloth in the solution and washed the eyes.

A. You're probably thinking of Borax, which can control a lot of pests. I also use it to scrub my tub and brighten the colors in my laundry. Good luck!

How does boric acid work for getting rid of roaches??
Q. How do I get boric acid??
Asked by Anaiza - Wed Mar 19 12:13:10 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. . Place boric acid around others areas you see them coming from. Roaches clean themselves a lot. By walking in the boric acid, they automatically get some on them. When boric acid is ingested, it interferes with digestion and kills them.

A. You want to put it along base boards and dark areas where roaches tend to crawl or hide. Under the refrigerator is a good place as well as the cabinet under the sink. Just apply it as a powder. You don't need to do anything else. It is perfectly safe for your pets and children.

A. I do this too. Don't put more borax than sugar, for some reason they run away from it, I watched them. I use powdered sugar like a tablespoon and mix thoroughly a pinch of borax with it. It doesn't take much. So I would say 1/4 your recipe should be borax.

How long does boric acid last when it is spread thoroughly to prevent roaches from reappearing in the kitchen?
Q. I have just recently moved to a new apt. and the previous tenants were not very clean and they had roaches in the kitchen area. I had the exterminator spray and I put Combat all over the apt. as well as boric acid everywhere. It is working because I haven't seen any since I moved. I want to keep it this way. The boric acid seems to be the perfect protection but I don't know if it keeps its potency or does it fade away? I abhor roaches and I want a clean, comfortable apt. to live in.
Asked by schilly246 - Sun Mar 11 22:15:24 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Be sure to change the Combats as often as it says to on the box--that's a sure way to stop them. The Boric Acid should say on the container--even if not, it's very inexpensive, and you can replace it often if it makes you feel safer. You could also do a search on boric acid + pesticide, and see what pops up :)

A. Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.

Things You ll Need: Kitchen and bathroom cleaners A vacuum cleaner or shop vacuum with a HEPA filter Caulk and foam insulation Light colored paint Boric acid powder Non toxic bug spray Step1 Take all food and dishes out of cabinets and drawers. Put food in sealed containers. Clean all counter tops, inside cabinets, drawers, and in any dark places in your kitchen and bathrooms with mild soapy water. Put trash outside of the house. Vacuum all carpets and other floors making sure to clean in corners and along walls. A. Boric acid is most commonly used as an eyewash for pink eye. It kills some insects because it is abrasive. As the insect crawls through it their exoskeleton becomes abraded and the basically dehydrate. I would suggest you try Terro. It is a bait that the ants will take back to the colony and share with the rest including the queen. Once that happens the entire colony dies. Unless a new colony gets in to your house, you're done! Most hardware stores and even some grocery stores sell it.
