Q. New dishwasher is 1/4" taller than existing opening, I need to remove existing floor tiling which extends inside the entire enclosure. Tile is laid on the diagonal. I need to remove the tiles up to the kick-plate line, which means preserving parts of diagonal tiles in front of the kickplate line. Any suggestions on how to make a clean cut and save parts of the laid tiles? Conditions: Concrete floor, glazed ceramic tile; I do have matching unlaid tiles if I "goof". Asked by r k - Sun Jan 6 18:02:19 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Cutting the tile is easy. You just use a diamond blade on a skillsaw, carefully limiting the depth using the saw's feature for that. *Saving* the tile you take up is another trick. If they were put down with typical adhesive or grout they're going to be really stuck, and will likely break when pried up. Given that you have "extras", you should be OK, though. Some will come up and some will break. Use a SOFT prying tool like an oak board. That'll reduce some chips at the edges. Good luck.
