One good hint of advice---Get a pet throw (couch blanket) for the areas they sleep on, it'll save the furniture. Also a miracle brush to get fur off easily. The blanket can be washed as needed, and a second blanket may be needed to cover all the couch if the dog is up there too. I'd rather get fur on the blanket which is replaceable, than woven into the furniture cushions. Best color? I'll say gray. I've got a medium brown and things show up on it. Black or white would show fur like crazy. Plaid is ugly, but will disguise the fact some fur is on it. A loose weave is the worst for cats, it encourages them to dig claws in.
